The lens for anybody doing product photography. Ours comes with the Canon EF full-frame mount, and has manual focus and aperture using 0.8 cinema gearing. As you can see from the photo, it’s not called a “probe” lens for no reason as it’s 16 inches long! Despite that, it’s actually quite light weight. It’s designed for macro photography/video and has a 2:1 magnification ratio and a 0.79″ minimum working distance (but it can focus to infinity). Once you’re that close to your subject, casting light onto the subject and avoid shadows from the lens body itself can be challenging. Uniquely, there are 9 LEDs encircling the end of the lens, and they can add up to about three stops of light to very close objects. The LEDs are powered via a USB plug near the camera end of the tube, and they are dimmable using a custom USB cable that comes with the package. The last big show stopper with this lens is that the end of the lens and the length of the tube (up to the USB connection) are waterproof! Doing an alcohol commercial where the camera heads into a tumbler of vodka? This is your lens.
Probably the biggest difference between this and other macro lenses is that 24mm wide angle view. That, along with the wide depth of field at it’s maximum aperture of f14 (that’s fourteen, NOT one point four) means that your scene looks more natural, like the view from your eye. When you’re shooting a bug with a traditional macro, it’s generally telephoto with a fast f stop so you see the bug and a bit of the flower but you only see a very narrow bit of the scene behind the bug and even that is super out of focus. With this lens, you see the bug but you also see the whole garden behind it.
